After
receiving a Certificate in Film, Video and Broadcasting from New
York University, Michael formed the production companies CinemaSky
Productions
and MPR
Films.
The first project to come to fruition was the Russin directed 2001 horror anthology
"Creepy
Tales". The film was well received and it was decided that more “tales” had to be told. But these tales were to be amped up. They would have to be bigger, badder and creepier than the first. The result was
"Creepy Tales: Girls Night
Out". Michael wore many hats in the production of “Creepy Tales: Girls Night Out”. Those hats included executive producer, writer (The Professor and The Creep), actor (Doyle in The Creep) and director.
Russin's follow up is the comedy "IDIOTS ARE
US". In addition to his directing duties Michael steps in front of the camera as Doyle Winters the drum playing happy go lucky stooge who always seems to be knee deep in trouble. The film also features
Scott Schiaffo and
Katrina Yaukey.
In the fall of 2006 "IDIOTS ARE
US" was awarded
2006's “Best Comedy Feature” in the New York Independent International Film and Video Festival.
After
concentrating of music and concert videos, Michael decided it was time
to get back to narrative story telling. The Result was the film
short/pilot “Don’t Shoot”, which Michael produced and directed.
“Don’t Shoot” was completed in the spring of 2011.
In the summer of 2011 "Don't Shoot"
was awarded "Best Low Budget Short" in the Jersey
Shore Film Festival.
Michael’s
other directing works include music videos for former Misfits, Michale
Graves and Dr. Chud’s X-Ward. Other bands videos include Mister
Monster, Blitzkid and The Jule Carey Band. Blitzkid "Terrifying
Tales/Death By Jersey" DVD special has been released and a
Dr. Chud’s X-Ward & Sardonica DVD specials are also in the
works.
In addition to his directing credits Michael has also been the cinematographer for the films
Linger and
Bloodhounds and has written articles for magazine “The Horror Writer”.
Michael is currently developing two new film projects.
